Dons boss confident about squad

DONS boss Tony Miller is confident that his charges will ready for the challenge when they face Featherstone Rovers in their opening Northern Rail Cup Pool A clash on February 4, despite problems caused by the wintry weather.

"We are a little behind where we would like to be with our pre-season training but I'm sure that we are not alone in that," said Miller. "I'm confident that we'll be ready for the start. The main problem has been the fact that we've not been able to do a lot of work outside because of the frozen ground.

"But we brought the lads in for session at the Keepmoat at the weekend and we might do so again this weekend and knock the Monday indoor session off."

The Dons have completed their pre-season recruitment with the signing of former Gateshead and Dewsbury winger Stewart Sanderson. Miller moved for Sanderson, who was the club's top scorer during his time at Gateshead, as a direct replacement for Aaron Henry, who left the club recently due to work commitments.

Although not as pacy as the former Queens' winger, Miller feels that he has other qualities which will serve him well at the club.

"He's not the biggest of wingers, but he's strong and has good feet and he knows the way to the line. He has settled in well; it helps that he knows a few players from his time at Dewsbury I think he'll be a good addition."
