THE boys put in a great performance against Whitehaven in the first round of the Championship One Play-Offs at the Keepmoat Stadium.
We beat the Cumbrians, who trailed 34-6 at one stage, 34-16.
I don’t think anyone at the club saw that one coming as Whitehaven are a very big good strong side.
But our players seemed to be right on their game against a side we only just beat 20-18 in the league last month.
The win keeps alive our hopes of winning through to Play-Off final at Warrington next month and winning promotion back to the Championship.
One thing I was very disappointed in was the crowd. I can’t get my head around what the folk of Doncaster want.
We are playing in a play-off series needing to win and needing the support but people just don’t seem interested in their local teams.
It’s a joke and makes you think sometimes why we bother.
Our great loyal fans are always there no matter what, but when you are only a couple of games away from getting to a final you would think the town would come out to support their team.
That was our last home match of the season and chairman John Scarrow outlined where we are as a club at this moment in time and where we want to be, after the game as well as fielding questions from the supporters,
Our victory over Whitehaven and Rochdale’s win over Oldham means that we will be travelling to Spotland on Sunday for what is effectively the quarter-final of the competition.
We are expecting an other tough match as they seem to be in top form at the minute.
We beat them 26-16 in the league there at the start of July with centre Chris Spurr leading the way with a hat-trick of tries.
They are a very similar side and club to us and are doing things the right way there.
Both clubs should be very proud of their efforts up to press as I’m pretty sure we pay the same sort of contracts to the players so this should be a very close intense game with the loser knowing it is the end of the road and the winner only one game away from the final.
That been the case we want as many Doncaster supporters at Rochdale as possible.
The Supporters Trust are putting a special bus on so if you want to jump on that get in touch with them as I know the bus is filling up very fast.
I would like to thank them all for sorting things out at such short notice.
It made a massive difference when they put a special bus on for our last league game at Gateshead.
I’m sure after the reception the fans gave Tony and the boys after the game contributed to the win against Whitehaven.
I’m sure the boys wanted to repay them with a great win which they did.
To the fans who do go to Rochdale, please make as much noise as you can from start to finish as we all know the boys appreciate your backing and seem to respond.
You really are the 18th men. See you all there.
