THERE were a number of new faces when the Dons’ squad reported back for pre-season training this week at their Lindholme base including Tom Hodson.
Hodson, who can play either full-back or wing, became the latest player to put pen to paper on a contract with the Championship One club.
“He was released by Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at the end of the season,” said Dons’ boss Tony Miller. “Since when he’s been playing for Sandal Rugby Union Club, for whom he scored three tries last week.
“He’s in his early 20s and is about 6’ 1” and is really quick and we are glad to have him on board because I know Dewsbury had been looking at him.”
Miller is still looking to add an half-back in the next few weeks to complete his 22-man squad.
“Ideally I’m looking for someone with a bit of experience but we’ll have to see what becomes available,” he said. “We are trying to get someone in but I don’t want to rush in and just get anyone. We’ve got a decent squad together so there is no need to panic.”
Included among the 18 players who reported back this week - two others were working and another was carrying a knock - was former captain Craig Lawton. The forward missed the second half of last season with a back injury but has worked his way to fitness in recent weeks.
