TONY Miller was not about to give his side any leeway after defeat to table-topping Halifax and labelled the Dons’ first half show as “awful.”

Doncaster went into the break 34-0 down against Halifax but responded well to finish the game at 34-16.

While he was pleased with the second half show, head coach Miller said it could not make up for what had preceded it.

“We were just awful in that first half,” Miller said. “I don’t think we could handle them around the middle in the first half. They got on a roll, we just couldn’t stop their momentum and they took full advantage of that. At 34-0 the game is over.

“We had two or three really poor individual errors which they scored on the back of which didn’t help. Against a team like Halifax, if you don’t get it right then you’re going to get punished.

“You don’t have to do a lot wrong but individual errors are going to get punished.

“We were completely different in the second half but there was just too much to do.

“It wouldn’t have mattered who we were playing in that first half, we’d have struggled.

“If someone said we were going to win the second half 16-0 after that first half I would have said they were crazy.”

Miller insists the talk of his side being gallant and often unlucky losers must end quickly if they are going to survive in the Championship.

He said: “We need to start winning games, it’s as simple as that. We’ve been unlucky in a few games but you make your own luck.

“We’ve got Featherstone next in the league and we’ve got to make sure we get it right against them.

“We have wins in us but we need to sort things out.”
