Doncaster winged their way to victory as they maintained their bright start to the 2014 Championship campaign with a 30-12 win over visiting Keighley Cougars.

Wingers Stu Sanderson (2) and Dave Scott claimed three of the Dons six tries as the South Yorkshire side claimed their second victory in as many starts.

The Dons opened the scoring after just two minutes, Sanderson going over for his third try of the season following some good handling

Dons player-coach Paul Cooke put impressive second-rower Mike Kelly over from close range on 13 minutes. Sanderson’s conversion made it 10-0.

Keighley opened their account on 16 minutes, centre Daley Williams touching down from Paul March’s grubber-kick.

Veteran play-maker Cooke almost got Kelly in for a second try on 28 minutes but, soon after, Scott dived over in the corner for another unconverted try.

Tempers boiled over on 38 minutes with a number of players from both sides swopping punches.

Referee Hewer singled out Doncaster’s Dean Hadley and March to cool their heels in the sin-bin.

White went in for a second Keighley try in the last minute of the half.

The Dons drew first blood after the break, Sanderson just making it to the line, too wide out to convert, following some neat handling.

Cooke, who ran the show for the home side, was also involved in the move which saw Kelly put centre Liam Whelham over from close range on 52 minutes.

Sanderson kicked to make it 24-8.

White held off the Doncaster cover on a 100 metre run to the line on 61 minutes after plucking Scott Spaven’s kick out of the air.

The try served to give Cougars a second wind and they put the home side under pressure with a series of clever kicks before having March sin-binned again on 75 minutes.

His departure proved costly and Nev Morrison’s last-minute try, goaled by Sanderson, denied them a losing bonus point.
