I FELT that we did really well last weekend against a very much improved London side to record a 32-4 Northern Rail Cup Pool A win.
What impressed me most of all was our speed of line on defence. If we can continue to do this when the warmer weather comes for the full 80 minutes, we will give ourselves a big chance of winning rugby league games, so well done to the lads and all concerned.
I would also like to bring to everyone’s attention the fact that Jean Dean from the former Askern Supporters Club has donated a cheque to the club for £828.85.
The club have had the money in their account for a good few years now and they felt after the good work that was done last year, and the fact that the club is now in a stable position, that it was time to hand the money over.
After watching the majority games from the Magic Weekend in Cardiff, I must say I’m not too impressed with the new tackle rule. As soon as the referee calls ‘tackle’ he calls ‘move’ as well.
The majority of these blokes are 15-stone-plus and just can’t move that quick from the tackle area – especially when fatigued. The new rule is causing a lot of penalties which is spoiling the games.
The team who impressed me the most, and who I feel will have a big say in the Super League this year, were Huddersfield.
The way they physically dominated a very good Warrington side was awesome.
