Sheffield Eagles coach Mark Aston believes his team can cause a Challenge Cup upset.
The Eagles have avoided the big names and will be at home to Super League strugglers London Broncos in the last eight.
“If you had asked me before the draw what I wanted I would have said London at Don Valley Stadium,” said Aston. “I believe that we can beat them – we want to get to a semi-final and write the history book for Sheffield Eagles again.”
Aston says London’s coach Tony Rae won’t be looking forward to playing on the narrow pitch at Don Valley Stadium.
“I would imagine that Tony is a bit more apprehensive than we are,” he said. “They played Featherstone in the third round and got pushed very close. Tony will know that the top teams in the Championship are capable of giving them a game.”
The Eagles have become the Cup specialists, booking a place in the quarter-finals of the Northern Rail Cup with a 64-10 win over Barrow at the weekend.
Now it’s back to the league, with the side facing high-flying Halifax - who they beat to reach the Challenge Cup last eight - at Bramall Lane on Friday night.
