Confident Town heading off to Headingley
HATFIELD Town, who topped the All Saints Indoor Cricket League at the mid-season break, will represent the Doncaster Area Cricket Council in the Yorkshire finals held at Headingley next month.
The six-a-side indoor cricket competition will be contested by clubs in the Yorkshire Area on Saturday February 13 with the opportunity to progress to the national finals at Lords.
Town boast a 100 per cent record in the indoor cricket league played at the Ian Wilson Community Sports Village at Rossington on Sunday evenings, and will not lack confidence.
Town started the second half of the campaign where they left off in 2009 with a win over Barnby Dun.
Batting first, Town were bowled out for 96, Nick Page top scored with 32 supported by Andy Cutts 26. Mark Nurse and Jay Horne took two wickets apiece.
Dun suffered an early setback in their reply, losing a wicket in the first over.
Horne and Scott Rich mounted a fightback, but once they had been removed, the target proved too much for the junior members of the team and their innings ended on 70 for 5. John Severn was the pick of the Town bowlers claiming 2-14.
Second-placed Warmsworth had a walkover as Adwick-le-Street were unable to raise a team.
The first match after the festive break proved a close affair with Brodsworth Main narrowly overcoming a spirited Brookhouse, winning by just three runs.
Brodsworth took first knock and posted a challenging total of 111-5 with good contributions from Richard Miller retired not out on 26, Liam Kerrigher 18 and Max Hudson 18. Brookhouse openers got off to a good start with Andy Beech posing a real threat.
In the closing overs all three results were possible, but once Beech had been bowled for a blistering 45 runs with only one wicket remaining, they failed to reach their target.
Much-improved Rossington Main easily beat Eden Grove as they posted 102-3 in their allotted overs with good batting from Alex Rowlands retired not out 27, Andy Gardiner 19, Michael Richardson 18 and Stuart Groves 18.
Eden Grove made a disastrous reply – their first four batsmen failing to reach double figures.
Ijaz Noor (30 not out) made the total look respectable as they closed on 55 for 5.
Still searching for their first win in the league, Hatfield Main struggled to make 69 all out with only Mel Bellamy (20) and Adam Berriman (14) reaching double figures.
Mark Davis having a rare outing from behind the stumps produced the best bowling of the season claiming 4 for 11.
Fishlake made hard work of their reply as they overhauled their target with an over to spare. Matt Mason top scored with 20 with Stuart Coleman 18 and Teasdale giving good support.
The league is looking to expand from 10 clubs to a possible 16 next season in order to run two divisions.
Any club wishing to enter a team for the 2010-11 campaign should contact Ashley Boothman on 01302 787138 or 07984 246094.
