'Clinical' Eagles boostplay-off mission
THE 'clinical' way Sheffield Eagles took apart a weakened Doncaster earned praise from Mark Aston.
The 78-8 win helped the Eagles to gatecrash the play-off places in the Co-operative Championship.
"It was clinical - particularly in the second half," said Eagles coach Aston.
"Before the game we talked about how Doncaster were going to come out with commitment and a good attitude in the first 20 minutes and we needed to be disciplined.
"We didn't play the smartest but we did the little things and it paid dividends at the end with the second 40 minutes very clinical."
The Eagles are up into sixth place in the division following the win which featured 14 tries, was the biggest victory ever in a South Yorkshire derby and the Eagles' highest score of the season.
Aston was quick to stress that keeping a place in the play-offs is the target, and he is determined that his players won't get over-confident.
He added: "We have a quick turnaround with playing Batley at Don Valley on Friday night. We will be buzzing and Batley will be buzzing - because they won well at the weekend - it's got the makings of a great game."
Batley beat second placed Barrow Raiders 46-16 - the latest of a string of strong performances since former Salford boss Karl Harrison took over as coach.
Aston will be checking on winger Danny Mills who played on after suffering a badly cut ear early in the Doncaster game.
He is also hoping prop Jack Howieson will be fit after two games out with a foot injury.
