DONCASTER will lack the services of prop Jamie Bovill in Sunday’s opening Co-operative Championship One clash against South Wales Scorpions at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Bovill picked up a one-match ban after being put on report in the club’s final Northern Rail Cup Pool A game at Rochdale.
“It’s a blow being without Jamie because he has been one of our form players this season,” said Dons boss Tony Miller. “But I’d been expecting that he would pick up a ban so we have trained accordingly.”
Skipper Shaun Leaf, who missed the last two games with a bruised sternum and play-maker Craig Fawcett (thigh) are both expected to return to the starting line-up: “They both trained on Wednesday and came through okay and we’ll just be taking another look at them tonight,” said Miller.
“It will be good to have them both back. It’s timely that Shaun is available again with Chris Spurr having pulled a hamstring in last week’s Challenge Cup tie. We’ve missed Craig’s organisation on the right side of the pitch.”
Although Scorpions elected not to compete in the Northern Rail Cup, and were well beaten at home by Championship club Dewsbury in last weekend’s Challenge Cup third round tie, Miller isn’t reading too much into the result.
“It was their first competitive game against a team from a higher division who had played four games in the Northern Rail Cup,” he said.
