Aston orders extra training for Eagles

SHEFFIELD Eagles' players have been rewarded for the win over Whitehaven with an extra training!

Coach Mark Aston wasn't happy that after going into an 18-0 lead the team didn't close out the game and only won by 28-24.

With no game this weekend the squad was due to have time off but that's been cancelled.

It's a message from Aston that gate-crashing the play-off zone has priority.

"I wasn't happy with the performance and instead of an extra day off we're be training this week," said Aston.

"When the lads do the little things well we look like a quality team but in the second half our standards dropped and we were below 60 per cent ball control.

"In the first half we were up at 80 per cent which is why we got 18 points ahead. We have to be a bit more mentally strong and I'm going to educate the lads on how to be mentally strong."

Aston added: "We gave Whitehaven a 'bonus' point which is annoying because instead of being one point behind them we're two."

Eagles are just outside the play-offs in sixth place in the Co-operative Championship and get back into action against Doncaster on Sunday 28 June - a game being played at Featherstone's ground.

Meanwhile Ilkeston Co-op Travel has become the club's official travel provider.
