19 members in county side
DONCASTER Athletic Club will supply 19 members of the South Yorkshire team contesting the Inter-Counties (U13 & U15) Championships at Nuneaton on September 12.
"Selection is a result of the athletes' performances over the season in the South Yorkshire Track & Field League," said chairman Dave Lilley.
"It is a huge increase in the numbers picked from the club on previous years and shows the progress being made."
The Lakeside Sports complex-based club stage their second annual Open Meeting on Bank Holiday Monday.
"With just under two weeks to go we have already matched last year's numbers of pre-entries so are anticipating it to be even busier than last year.
The club are staging the inaugural Cusworth 10k on September 27.
It is the final event in the three-race Doncaster Festival of Running series, and the winner will receive a replica of the Lt. Robert Cecil Battie Wrightson Shield, the original of which has been kept at Cusworth House for the last 30 years.
The series has proved so popular in its first year that the club are looking to build on it's success next year by reviving the Doncaster half marathon
The club are holding a fund-raising Dinner Disco at the Keepmoat Stadium on October 8 with guest speakers Bob Champion (Grand National-winning jockey) and Geoff Capes (former European & Commonwealth shot putt champion and record holder).
Other guests include Paul "Silky" Jones (former world champion boxer), Jonjo Irwin (former British and featherweight champion) and, hopefully, Emily Freeman (Team GB 100 & 200m sprinter).
