Rotherham Metro route to the Olympics

ROTHERHAM Metro water polo stars Fran Leighton and Adam Scholefield have been named in their respective Great Britain squads for next month’s Olympic Games in London.

Women’s captain Leighton, aged 30, won a Commonwealth Games bronze medal in 2006 with England and will lead Team GB in to their first Olympic Games. In January this year they progressed to the European Championships for the first time in 15 years.

Scholefield, aged 27, who played for Rotherham from the age of 13, is the men’s vice captain and now is a professional with top Hungarian club Tecs.

Water polo action in London runs from July 29 - August 12.
