LOCAL racing cyclists who have been doing their best to clock up the miles this winter in between the spells of freezing weather are looking forward to the start of this season’s League International (TLI)/North Midlands Road Race League.
BikeboxAlan, which is run by experienced cyclist former Great Britain track star and current Dinnington Racing Club rider Alan Hamshaw, is the sponsor of both series.
The annual Thursday evening contest starts on April 21 at 7.15pm on the circuit at Torworth that takes competitors around Blyth and Barnby Moor area. This is followed by a further five races on the same circuit on April 28, May 5, 12, 19 and 26. The riders then move on to the circuit around cycling legend Tom Simpson’s home village of Harworth for the second series of six rides on June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and July 7. The third series of six events takes place at Stainton near Braithwell on July 14, 21, 28, August 4, 11 and 18. The racing format will be the same as was introduced last year. The field will be divided into three equal groups based on age and ability with possible movements between groups based on performances.
Prizes will be awarded to the best riders in the overall standings in each group and best in category in each group. Category prizes only awarded to riders who don’t win an overall prize. The Saturday afternoon series of 36.5 mile events organised under TLI rules are being held over five laps of the 7.5 mile circuit at Cuckney, North Nottinghamshire on Saturday, April 2, 9, 16 starting at 2pm. Overall and category prizes will total at least £500.
