DONCASTER Lawn Tennis Club have been serving up a variety of camps throughout the summer holidays at their Saxton Avenue base for children of all ages and abilities.
“Our most popular has been the matchplay mornings,” said joint head coach Liz Beaton, who has still helped staff the courses despite breaking her left arm playing in a match last month.
“Children of all levels and abilities play ‘points’ to develop their skills.
“Use of different court sizes, with smaller nets and softer balls, allow the coaches to match players appropriately so they can be challenged in different competitive formats.
“Another new incentive this year has been our preschool camp, which is a 90-minute session for three and four year olds.
“We do simple exercises for children to work on their balance, coordination and agility.
“It also develops their listening skills and promotes confidence as the children work together in groups to develop their skills.
“It has been fantastic fun and the children have responded very well.
“So much so that we plan to run preschool groups at the club again next summer.”
Next week is the last week of the summer camps.
“We are running a series of multisports activity days from 9.30am-2.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday,” said Liz.
The cost is £20 per day (drop off and collect anytime from 9am to 3pm).
Anyone interested should contact Liz on 07816414804. Equipment is provided and no previous tennis experience is necessary.
The club are also continuing to run their popular junior night on Friday evenings throughout the summer.
The sessions are open to both club member and visitors (£5). The Under 8s session runs for an hour from 4.30pm with the 8-11 year session starting at 5.30pm. The 12 and over session starts at 6.30pm.
