OWLS DRAW: Sheffield Wednesday 1 Birmingham City 1

SHEFFIELD Wednesday missed out on all three points when they let in a 90 minute equaliser at Hillsborough.

Owls Defender Lewis Buxton had put Wednesday ahead when scrambled the ball home after a corner in front of the Kop early in the second half.

It was his first goal for the Owls, capping a good week after agreeing a permanent deal after a loan spell from Stoke City.

And Wednesday managed to hang on to their lead - right up to the last minute of the game.

Birmingham's Kevin Phillips found the back of the net with a header.

The teams were locked in a Hillsborough stalemate after the first 45 minutes in this Championship encounter.

Chances were at a premium, but Lee Grant had to be alert to flick away a close-range effort, with Hameur Bouazza going close.

Leon Clarke made a welcome return to the Wednesday starting XI against high-flying Birmingham after missing the last six weeks with injury.

Clarke returned to the Owls attack as a replacement for Francis Jeffers who starts a three match ban. It was the only change from the side which lost 2-1 at Nottingham Forest in midweek.

Midfielder Steve Watson was named among the substitutes after recovering from a toe injury but Akpo Sodje, Frank Simek and Etienne Esajas remain sidelined.

Sheffield Wednesday: Hinds, Johnson, Watson, McAllister, Buxton, Spurr, Gray, Boden, Tudgay, Clarke, Grant, Potter, Small, O'Connor, Wood, Beevers

Birmingham City: Ridgewell, Sinclair, Doyle, Larsson, Jerome, Bowyer, Phillips, Murphy, Carsley, Johnson, Parnaby, Bent, Taylor, Fahey, Taylor, Bouazza
