Owls steal draw at Steels - Wood junior to the rescue: VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

Stocksbridge Park Steels 1 Sheffield Wednesday XI 1: NICK WOOD - kid brother of Sheffield Wednesday captain Richard - spared the club's blushes at non-league Stocksbridge Park Steels last night.

Owls stole a draw with a goal with virtually the last kick of the game from the 17-year-old.

It was fitting reward for a second half which the largely second string Owls' team had totally dominated.

Yet they had gone behind on 16 minutes when Andy Hirst slipped the ball past Richard O'Donnell.

Mobile striker Mark Ward had narrowly failed with a couple of chances for Steels before that.

It was only when Ricky Lekaj and Etienne Esajas swapped wings that Wednesday started to test the Steels' defence.

Esajas carved himself two similar opportunities but could not get the ball on target.

A nice exchange of passes created another chance, but Kenny Lunt also couldn't convert.

Ash Worsfold could not bury a chance that came his way either.

After the interval, the Owls laid siege to Stocksbridge's defence seemingly without breakthrough - until 6ft 3in Ossett-born centreback Wood stepped up at the death.

The big Owls certainly contingent in the crowd went home happier than they had been - and Steels were more than a touch wealthier from the bumper gate receipts.

It was a decent run out, with limited injury worries, Darren Schofield went off for the non-leaguers with a nasty bump to his left leg and Liam McMenamin had to run off a similar knock to his left leg.

Teams:Stocksbridge (4-4-2): Ratcliffe, Adams, Schofield, Lovell, Normanschild, Wilkinson, Richards, Hirst, Wainman, Ward, Sidebottom. Subs: Ring, Ricards, Ashley, Oldham, Howitt, Wood, Vardy.

Wednesday (4-4-2): O'Donnell; McMenamin, N Wood, Liversidge, Moc (L Lekaj); R Lekaj, Lunt, Boden (Wragg), Esajas (Mohammed); Worsfold, Tunnard.
