Whirlwind back in action
FANS' favourite Jimmy White returns to action in Sheffield today in the second round of qualifying for this season's BBC-televised Maplin UK Championship.
The Whirlwind fought back from 8-6 down to beat Yorkshireman David Grace 9-8 in their first round clash at the EIS.
And the 46-year-old Londoner faces Welshman Ian Preece today, with the winner of the best-of-17 frame contest set to play Wellingborough's Rory McLeod later this week.
White, who has slipped alarmingly to No 65 in the world rankings, must win three more matches to secure his participation in this season's next ranking tournament, which runs 13-21 December at the Telford International Centre.
Sheffield-based Chinese cueman Liu Chuang kept his qualifying hopes alive with a battling comeback against Glaswegian potter James McBain.
McBain led 3-0 and 5-3, but Chuang, who practises at the EIS, won six of the next frames to deservedly progress on his home patch.
