Shaun has Masters title in his sights

ROTHERHAM cue king Shaun Murphy is gunning to find the final piece of his snooker jigsaw.

The current Maplin UK champion and former World Chamionship winner heads to the Wembley Masters in the New Year.

And it's little surprise the world No 3 would love to win the most prestigious invitational tournament on the calendar - and write his name in history having won the three 'big' majors.

"My record at the Masters is abysmal, if I get past the quarters it will be the best I've ever done. Now I've won the UK title, who knows what I can do?" he said.

"I'd love to win the Masters. If I could add that to the UK and World titles I'd be over the moon, that would be some achievement."

Murphy started the new season with four successive first round defeats, which meant the adopted Yorkshireman spent much of his time watching tournaments on TV from the comfort of his home.

But the 2005 Crucible champ and two-time Malta Cup winner is arguably one of the most dedicated professionals on the circuit - and all his hard work once again came to fruition.
