Semi-final revenge mission for Murphy

Rotherham potter Shaun Murphy has insisted that he has no problem with old foe Stephen Maguire ahead of today's Maplin UK Championship semi-final at Telford.

At the 2004 Grand Prix Murphy was involved in having one of the Scot's frames forfeited.

Maguire asked the referee for permission to leave the arena because he had forgotten his chalk.

But while he was away Murphy protested and tournament referee Mike Ganley gave him a frame because his opponent was not ready to begin the match at the official start time.

Murphy eventually lost, with Maguire saying afterwards: "I dislike him and I think he dislikes me."

Asked whether there was still any lasting ill-feeling between the two players, Murphy said: "There certainly isn't from my side, I don't think there is from him either.

"We are polite with each other around the venue. I think things that have gone on in the past are just out there in the past. We are both professionals, we are both just trying to win."

Maguire also downed Murphy in the semi-final of last year's UK Championship.

But after one of his worst runs of his career, Murphy, who lost in the opening round of the first four ranking events of the current season, is back on form and looking for revenge.

"It is a good opportunity to gain a little bit of revenge on what happened last year," continued the 26 year-old former world champion.

"I played really played well here last year, got to the semis, but didn't show up in the morning session. I let myself down. If I could have an opportunity to re-write history it would be good."
