SHEFFIELD’S Alastair Wilson has no intention of forgetting last night’s 9-2 defeat by the Netherlands in the semi-final of the men’s hockey tournament at the Riverbank Arena.
Trailing 4-1 at half time against a Dutch team that had won all five its Pool matches, Great Britain capitulated after the break to concede five further goals before Rob Moore’s late striker. The prolific Ashley Jackson had scored earlier to make it 2-1.
Wilson, a former Meadowhead school and Sheffield College student, said his team must get it right before tomorrow’s bronze medal play-off match against Australia: “It was embarrassing, humiliating. It was terrible from start to finish. We have to remember it. It was terrible, awful. There was no energy. If we do that next game the same result will happen.
“We need to turn it round and work out why we had such low energy. There’s still a lot to play for. Hopefully we can improve.”
