ALASTAIR Wilson says he’s ready to take a break for hockey after narrowly missing out on a hockey bronze medal on Saturday.
Wilson, aged 28, from Sheffield and Great Britain skipper Barry Middleton from Doncaster, were part of the Great Britain team that lost 3-1 against Australia.
He said: “It hurts now. It’s something we have dreamed about all our lives. Looking back we can say we gave our best so we can take some solace from that.
“The season starts pretty soon, but I don’t think I’ll be there for a while I’m going on holiday. Coming fourth is better than lower. Everyone says finishing fourth is the worst place but I’d rather by fourth than lower down.”
And the former Sheffield College student wouldn’t commit to challenging for a place in the 2016 Rio Games squad: “I’ve not thought about it, to be honest. I’ll come back to it and see. I think there will be a good enough core that sticks together.”
German won the gold medal, beating Holland 2-1 in the final.
