Murphy faces Allen in China semi-final
SHAUN Murphy will today lock horns with Irish ace Mark Allen in the semi-finals of the Wuzhuo International Jiangsu Classic in China.
The world No 3 defeated Mark Selby 2-0 and beat Ali Carter 2-1 to finish top of his qualifying group with four wins from five matches.
Allen, a World Championship semi-finalist last month, beat Sheffield-based Chinese cueman Li Hang 2-0 and Peter Ebdon by the same scoreline.. The other semi-final will be contested by Chinese professional Ding Junhui, who is also based in Sheffield, and Hong Kong's Marco Fu.
Ding topped his group with four wins out of five, beating Ebdon 2-1 and Welshman Ryan Day 2-1 in his final group matches.
Former Crucible runner-up Selby pocketed a memorable maximum 147 break but still missed out on the semi-finals after a 2-1 defeat to Joe Perry.
Jin Long, another of Sheffield's Chinese players, finished bottom of his qualifying group after he failed to notch a win.
