Murphy back in frame for more titles

FORMER Rotherham potter Shaun Murphy returns to competitive action tomorrow in the first ranking tournament of the new snooker season.

The world No 3 locks horns with Nottingham cueman Michael Holt at the Roewe Shanghai Masters, which finishes on Sunday.

And having already won the Paul Hunter German Classic title last month, it's little surprise Murphy is in confident mood ahead.

"I always look forward to playing in China, the Chinese really love their snooker," Murphy told The Star.

"I try and get better year on year, but of course it's important to start the season well."

Murphy won the UK Championship last season - widely regarded as the second biggest major title on the world circuit - and also reached the World Championship final for a second time. But despite defeat to Scot John Higgins, the 2005 Crucible winner is confident some more titles are just around the corner.

"The UK is the second biggest tournament, so to win that last season was fantastic," added Murphy.

"I was so upset to lose to John (Higgins) in Sheffield, but I beat him in the final of the World Series in Kilarnney, have won in Germany and I'm in the Premier League this season as well, so there's a lot to look forward too."
