Judd relishes Ebdon clash

SHEFFIELD potter Judd Trump is relishing his mouth-watering showdown with Peter Ebdon at this month's Pukka Pies UK Championship (December 5-13).

The world No 30, who practices at the English Institute of Sport, fought back from 3-1 down to beat Sussex professional Mark Davis 9-7 in the final qualifying round on Monday.

And the 20-year-old left-hander knows he will have his work cut out if he is going to beat Ebdon, a former UK and World champion, at the Telford International Centre.

"I'm really looking forward to playing Peter. He's a quality player," Trump told The Star.

"Peter is going to play the right shots, so I'll have to be patient and wait for my chances. I've got a few days of solid practice ahead of me and then I'm going to be giving my all to try and beat him and have a good run."

Trump, a semi-finalist at this season's PartyCasino.com Premier League live on SKY Sports last weekend, locks horns with Ebdon, the world No 14, on Sunday with their best-of-17 frame match to be played over two sessions - at 1pm and then to a conclusion at 7pm.

And whoever wins the match would face the mouth-watering prospect of playing either crowd favourite Ronnie O'Sullivan or Welshman Matthew Stevens in the second round of this year's 625,000 tournament.
