Joel misses out
SHEFFIELD potter Joel Walker suffered disappointment over the weekend as he failed to qualify for next month's new World Open in Glasgow (Sept 18-26).
The promising 16-year-old needed to win three matches to qualify for his first ranking tournament, but fell at the second hurdle with a 3-1 defeat to veteran Maltese cueman Toni Drago at the World Snooker Academy in the city.
Walker showed fight with a 68 break having gone 2-0 down, but Drago made his experience count in the fourth frame.
The highly-rated teenager beat Julian Logue 3-1 in his first qualifying match, but despite defeat to Drago, will have more chances to qualify for the major tournaments throughout the season.
