Joel dreams of Ronnie tie
RISING Sheffield potter Joel Walker will lock horns with the big boys of snooker this weekend.
Joel, of Charnock, was awarded a wild card to the World Snooker Open after snooker legend 'Rocket' Ronnie O'Sullivan selected him as the best player in the nationwide Future Stars competition in April.
The 16-year-old, who is practising six hours a day in preparation for the tournament, said: "I'm up against a regional qualifier in the first round. If I get through, I will play World No 54 Tony Drago. He is a top quality player. To beat Tony would be a massive confidence booster."
Joel is hoping to make the TV rounds in Glasgow and admits he "would love" to play against his idol O'Sullivan.
Billed as the FA Cup of snooker, The World Snooker Open has an open draw which can see amateur players facing the elite players.
It is the World Snooker Academy, Sheffield which will stages the preliminary rounds from Saturday August 21 to Tuesday August 24.
