England place for Joe, nine
Canada-bound: Joe Sutherland
DONCASTER’S Joe Sutherland will make his international debut for England in the 2012 World Kick Boxing (WKC) World Championships in Canada in October.
The nine-year-old from Hatfield booked his place in the England squad after striking gold competing in the freestyle event in the National Championships Manchester at the weekend.
Joe first took up martial arts as a four year-old, training at East West MMA in Armthorpe under the instruction of Master Stuart Wilkes.
Joe, who now trains five nights a week, gained his black belt last September.
Joe started competing in local inter-club competitions 12 months ago and quickly became ‘forms’ champion at local level.
He won gold at the first attempt in the Yorkshire Championships and has since performed at a local British Red Cross fashion event with Danny Ball from Strike, who reached the final of Britain’s Got Talent several years ago.
He now also trains once a week at Andy Crittenden’s Martial Arts Centre in Balby, where several world champions are based.
Joe’s family have to meet all the costs involved in the trip to Canada and mum Gemma told The Star: “It will cost over £4,000 for me and Joe to go, but any help anyone can give towards his costs of over £1,000 would be greatly appreciated.” Interested parties can contact Gemma on 01302 or 843614 or 07557521071.
