City move to help prospect Trump his rivals

SNOOKER star Judd Trump is moving to Sheffield so that he can improve his chances of being crowned world champion.

The 20-year-old Bristol-based potter has shot up the world rankings.

And now the youngster intends to work even harder on his game so that he can start to win major titles.

Trump has been practising at the state-of-the-art World Snooker Academy at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield for the last few months and has enjoyed his time in the city so much that he feels a permanent move can help him improve.

"There are great facilities here" Trump told The Star. "I'd like to move to Sheffield permanently. I've been looking for a place to live here. I really like playing at the Academy; it's going to give me the opportunity to keep improving my game.

"Usually I practise on my own in Bristol, but the Academy has given me the chance to play against top players."

World No 13 Ding Junhui, a three-time ranking event winner, and fellow Chinese player Liang Wenbo, the world No 27, both made the move from China to set up home in Sheffield.

And before tournaments a string of top names including Ronnie O'Sullivan, Peter Ebdon, Ken Doherty and current world champion John Higgins all practice at the EISS, as well as a number of other top stars.

"It's a good environment to be in," added Trump. "The tables are the same as tournament tables - and you don't usually find that in a normal snooker club.

"The cloth is a lot quicker and the pockets are tighter."

Trump has become good friends with Welshman Daniel Wells, another of the circuit's most promising young players.

Wells is a former winner of the highly-regarded Paul Hunter Scholarship - and the 21-year-old continues to impress, having risen to No 68 in the world rankings.

"When I'm up, I stay with Daniel, and we often practise together.

"It's good to practise against different people and test yourself," said Trump.

"The Academy is great because it's not just for professional players like myself and Daniel - club players and juniors can use the facilities.
