Adam suffers Qatar blow

A PUNCTURE in the final five kilometres prevented Sheffield’s Adam Blythe from contesting the sprint at the end of stage four of the Tour of Qatar.

The 22-year-old was part of a small breakaway group heading into the closing stages of the 147.5km from Al Thakhira to Madinat Al Shamal. But he was left frustrated when his tyre punctured, saying on Twitter: “Well... that was disappointing!”

The mechanical problems cost Blythe 42 seconds. He remains in 10th position overall one minute 14 seconds behind Belgium’s Tom Boonen, who won the stage and extended his lead to 31 seconds over Tyler Farrar.

Today’s fifth stage is 160km from Camel Race Track to Al Khor Corniche.
