Adam gets better of Cav

SHEFFIELD’S Adam Blythe stole the thunder of world champion Mark Cavendish on the first day of the Tour of Qatar yesterday.

The 22-year-old, who joined Tour de France winner Cadel Evans’s BMC Racing team this year, finished second behind Belgian’s former world champion Tom Boonen in the 142.5 kilometres ride from Barzan Towers to the College of the North Atlantic.

Cavendish, making his debut for Team Sky, did not feature in the sprint for the line after feeling the effects of being ill over the weekend.

Today Blythe will take part in the 11.3km team-time-trial around the new Qatari city of Lusail.

However, on Twitter, he said it will be tough. He posted: “Thanks to @BMCProTeam for the help today! I’m happy with 2nd..... Not looking forward to tomorrow to be honest #notatester”
