On-form travellers hoping to seal twelfth win

Chesterfield: Spireites news, reports and more.

Spireites host league leaders Charlton Athletic at the B2net tomorrow, their first league visit to the town in 31 years.

Chris Powell’s team have an excellent travelling record this season with 11 wins and two draws in 15 trips and go into the game as odds-on favourites to succeed.

One more win for the London side will equal their all-time record of 12 away wins in a season set back in 1999-2000 when Alan Curbishley’s side made it to the promised land of the Premier League.

Powell, whose side will be backed by around 1,500 supporters, will no doubt bring leading scorer Bradley Wright-Phillips back into the fray after resting him for the 1-1 home draw with Bury last time out.

He could return at the expense of the man who is still Chesterfield’s leading scorer, Leon Clarke.

Midfielder Johnnie Jackson, along with Spireites keeper Tommy Lee a short-listed man for January’s Player of the Month award, is their most dangerous man and arguably the best engine-roomer in the division. Free-kick winners against both Owls and Blades last month outline his value to the team.

Jamie Lowry and Nicky Ajose are the two players most likely to be brought into Chesterfield’s starting line-up after their 2-1 loss at Carlisle United last Saturday. Lowry was a starter in the second leg JPT win at Oldham after completing a loan spell at Crewe whilst Ajose, a debut making sub in that game, showed enough to make it a surprise if he doesn’t start.

Craig Westcarr (ankle) could return to the squad but may be held back until Tuesday’s scheduled trip to Bury whilst Jimmy Juan (calf) is Spireites’ only likely absentee.
