NICK Robinson-Baker has made the move down South as he and the rest of Team GB step up preparations for the London Games.

Speaking before he was whisked off for a two-week training camp in Southend, the City of Sheffield diver insisted that all his efforts are going into fine-tuning his training techniques. He said: “Training has stepped up a lot recently.

“I’m now doing more training and the calibre and intensity of it has gone up a gear with not long to go until the big day.”

Robinson-Baker and his synchro 3m springboard partner Chris Mears have been in good form in the build-up to the showpiece event on August 1.

One of the duo’s highlights in the run-up to the Games was scooping a silver medal in Mexico and Robinson-Baker believes the close rapport between the two is a key reason as to why they can prosper.

He said: “We’re not bothered at all about the opposition. As long as we do what we’re capable of then I can’t see us having any problems. Me and Chris have got a close relationship and this camp is all about stepping up and building on that platform.”

Robinson-Baker, who recently celebrated his 25th birthday by carrying the Olympic torch through the streets of Sheffield, also had warm words for another Sheffield-based diver.

Megan Sylvester recently claimed a gold medal at European Junior championships in Austria, and Robinson-Baker said: “Megan’s always had that in her locker.

“She’s always had the ability to achieve stuff like that and now that she is getting these kind of results, hopefully she can do it on a more consistent basis.”
