PAUL Goodison said some “northern grit” was required to help him overcome a back injury.
The reigning Laser gold medallist had looked in danger yesterday when the problem picked up in the second race of London 2012 worsened.
The Sheffield-born, Rotherham-raised sailor posted fourth and ninth-place finishes, meaning he ended Yorkshire Day sixth in the fleet.
Goodison said: “We’re at the halfway stage now, with four more races and the medal race to go.
“You’ve got to give yourself every chance.
“A bit of northern grit is what I needed and I’m sure that is what helped me through today.”
