ROTHERHAM’S Ben Swift is still hopeful of a seat on the British team pursuit quartet after a mixed performance in the omnium at the UCI World Cup in London.
Swift is desperate to impress the selectors with the World Championships coming up before his ultimate goal of the London Olympics. But for the 24-year old had to settle for a ride in the omnium, cycling’s multiple race event, at test event, finishing sixth overall.
He said: “This event was a bit up and down for me. The points race was supposed to one of my strongest disciplines and I underperformed.
“The flying lap was also quite a disappointment as I was going faster in training. But I had a great pursuit as I had been doing a lot of training for the team pursuit and I set a personal best.
“Then once I knew I was out of contention for the overall win, I just wanted to win one of the events and the scratch race was the best opportunity. I get better as the races go on.”
