A netball club formed by wives and partners of Sheffield Tigers Rugby Union club has enjoyed increasing success despite starting up less than two years ago.
It was May 2013 when Crystal Buchanan set up Sheffield Tigers Netball Club and it became so popular that a second team was started in November of the same year and they have since added a third. Now the first two teams have won back-t0-back promotions.
Crystal said: “We joined the Sheffield Monday league in Division 4. This is our fourth season (two seasons each year) and we have been promoted twice and now play in Division 2, which is a fantastic achievement.
“We advertised around Sheffield and set up weekly training at Silverdale school offering “back to netball” fun coaching.
“We formed a second team for the Winter 2013 season in the Wednesday Match Night Sheffield League - Division 6.
“The season was amazing and we took the top spot and went straight up to Division 5. The following season we gained promotion into Division 4. We couldn’t believe it!”
The third team is Tiger Cubs in Division 7.
They attracted sponsors Mercia Motors and Sheffield Lets to donate £300 each towards Tigers kit and ordered dresses and hoodies for all three teams.
Crystal said: “The club is still growing and we are fighting for promotion in all three leagues. Our aim is to encourage more ladies to get back into netball! It’s a great sport and Sheffield caters for all sporting abilities.”
