Millers watch pennies as Pope signs in
DESPITE splashing out on striker Tom Pope, Rotherham United manager Mark Robins insists that the club are watching their finances.
"The chairman, Tony Stewart, is being prudent, we aim to balance the books but this deal is a sign of the ambition that the club has in their intention to move forward," said Robins.
"The cup runs we had last season helped us financially, then there are season ticket sales but the chairman has backed me and we have a great relationship.
"Our aim is to improve on last season, when we got 75 points, and we are all working towards one aim and that is the success of Rotherham United.
"It sends out a message to our fans in that we are striving to take the club forward."
He said Pope, signed in a club record-equalling 150,000 deal from Crewe Alexandra, had improvement in him and that he wanted to learn and was capable of learning.
"He's worked in the Crewe Academy and that's a decent pedigree," said Robins. "He grafts and puts a shift in."
