Kiveton ace Toseland rolls back years in Spain

JAMES Toseland kick-started his 2010 World Superbike season with a podium finish in Spain - then admitted his Valencia heroics would go some way to easing the pain of his Moto GP heartache.

The two-time world champion race has retreated to the World Superbike paddock, having had his fingers burnt in the world's premier class alongside Valentino Rossi and co. in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

His return had been far from fairytale heading to Spain with the 29-year-old lying 11th in the overall standings and still nursing a broken hand sustained at round one in Australia.

But Toseland rolled back the years at the Spanish circuit, turning ninth on the grid into third in race one before ending seventh in the second.

And after 34 races without a podium appearance in the Moto GP Toseland conceded it felt good to be tasting the champagne again at round three. "It's been a while coming," said Toseland. "It's been too long really so I am just happy to be back on the podium and give the fans something to cheer about. So I am just delighted to be back on the podium because it has been a hard few years so to get back on the podium is great and that's what it is all about. It has been a tough 18 months and I had not really had the feeling that I had in the Moto GP ever before in my career. It's something I had to pick myself up from."

Fellow Brit Leon Haslam proved yet again he was the man to beat at Valencia- finishing first and fourth to lead the overall standings with 123 points - 73 clear of Toseland.

World Superbike Championship races will be broadcast on Eurosport, with the European rounds also available in High Definition. Eurosport Sky 410 & Virgin Media 521. Eurosport HD is on Sky 412 and Virgin Media 522.
