SHEFFIELD’S Adam Blythe produced a stunning finish yesterday to win the Binche-Tournai-Binche in Belgium.
Blythe, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on Monday, used a strong lead out from his BMC Racing teammates Manuel Quinziato and Michael Schär to put himself in excellent position approaching the final kilometre of the 200.3km race.
And once the Monaco-based rider attacked with 700 metres to the line he held off the attentions of runner-up Adrien Petit and third-place finisher John Degenkolb to earn his second win of the season.
Blythe told the BMC website: “Quinzi did his last effort on the little climb before the cobblestone section and kept it in one line and then Michi just went full gas across the cobblestones.
“I attacked with about 700 meters to go, which was a bit risky, but I gave everything to hold it to the line.
“It’s nice to win at the end of the season like this.”
