TONIGHT’S RESULT: SHEFFIELD Steelers 7-0 Dundee Stars (aggregate 9-4)

Janis Ozolins back at iceSheffield

Janis Ozolins back at iceSheffield

SHEFFIELD Steelers are heading for the semi finals of the Challenge Cup.

Ryan Finnerty’s side tore Dundee Stars to pieces to overcome a 4-2 first quarter final leg defeat.

Dundee had new signing Janis Ozolins, the former Steeldog, on show after his release from Hull Stingrays.

But he was of little use to hisnew team.

Steelers had a few efforts in the first six minutes, but no breakthrough.

Then two goals in 30 seconds came along.

First a disputed one from Shawn Limpright, then a super wrist shot from Simon Ferguson at 10.19.

Stars had to come out of their shell - but when they did Sheffield broke away and Jeff Legue made it 3-0 on the night.

That was followed by number four, from Ferguson.

Stars fell to pieces rather embarrasingly and conceded again, from Tylor Michel.

A 0-0 middle period, again dominated by the iceSheffield home side, was another step towards the semi final.

But Stars respite ended with two quick British-player goals, from Jason Hewitt and Jonathan Phillips.

It was an utterly dominating performance.

*Finnerty says he is disappointed second-string Geoff Woolhouse missed the cut for GB’s Olympic qualifier in Latvia.
