Sheffield Steelers players past and present guided Great Britain to a prestigious 5-3 win over Ukraine in Kiev in the World Championships last night.
Ukraine twice went ahead, with Nottingham’s David Clarke and ex Steeler Rob Dowd (newly signed by Belfast) levelling. Steelers Ashley Tait and Jason Hewitt were the assists providers.
Clarke scored again to give coach Paul Thompson’s men the edge, although Ukraine equalised. Belfast’s Colin Shields scored what turned out to be the match-winner, with Sheffield captain netting his team’s insurance goal with seven and a half minutes remaining.
