Steelers to warm up with Blaze
SHEFFIELD Steelers will face Coventry Blaze twice, Nottingham Panthers and Jody Lehman's new Danish team Aalborg, in a stiff pre-season series.
In what promises to be the most competitive run-up to the main campaign for years, Sheffield host Blaze on August 22, with the return the next day.
Aalborg visit South Yorkshire on August 29, while Sheffield go to Nottingham Panthers, scene of their Play Off victory last season, on Wednesday September 2.
There may be another road game in the UK on August 30.
General manager Mike O'Connor said coach Dave Matsos "wanted a tough pre season and a lot of games under our belt before the season starts. I think this series of games does that.
"We don't have confirmed venues for the two home games against Coventry and Aalborg yet, at least one of those games, probably the Aalborg game will be at the Arena with the other one at iceSheffield."
Goaltender Lehman is looking forward to coming back to Sheffield to face whichever netminder Steelers have signed.
"It will be a big night for me. I will want to impress my new coach and team mates so it will be a proper game," he said.
"It will also be a night where I can say goodbye to the fans and wish them good luck for next season. I hope they win it all again next year.
"My time in Sheffield was a long project. I came to a team that had forgotten how to win and over the time here we built a great room and a great team that found a way to lift trophies. It was an incredible journey and one I will never forget. I have hundreds of friends in Steelerland."
