Sheffield Steelers’ hopes of ending a period of mid-table obscurity have been given a boost.
The club’s top two forwards, Jeff Legue and Rob Dowd, are expected to be fit to face Cardiff Devils at home, this evening before the away trip to Wales tomorrow.
Coach Doug Christiansen “Leggy didn’t skate until Thursday as we wanted to rest his foot and allow the swelling to go down. X-rays and treatment from our medical team show no break, just a bad bruise and swelling. Having him back for these important games was crucial.
“Dowdy (concussiuon) has been skating with us for seven-10 days and made warm-up for the two games last week. Having him back gives everyone a lift because he is a special talent. Dowdy had 11 goals and 24 points, we have missed him.
“Dustin Kohn, too, is getting better. We will leave a decision on him to maybe game time.”
Kohn has suffered two concussions. And he will be aware that Devils goalie Dan LaCosta has been forced to retire from hockey after taking several blows to the head this season.
