Returnee Tom Squires says that Sheffield Steeldogs have to turn iceSheffield into a ‘nasty place to come to’ ahead of another ‘must-win’ game against Peterborough Phantoms this weekend.
With other teams now having played their games in hand over Steeldogs, Andre Payette’s side have dropped down to seventh in the EPL league standings and are in the midst of a play-off battle that involves every team.
Five points separate Telford Tigers in fifth down to Peterborough, who currently reside at the bottom of the EPL standings.
And after making his debut in the 4-2 victory over bitter rivals Manchester Phoenix, Squires has called on his players to make home advantage count against Phantoms tomorrow evening (7:30pm).
“It was nice to be back on the ice on Saturday and start against Manchester,” Squires told Grass Roots.
“It was a great start against Manchester as well, I was happy with what I got and I want to take that forward into the game against Peterborough.
“We have got to make home advantage count and we have to turn IceSheffield into a nasty place to come to.”
On Sunday evening, Steeldogs will make the short trip to Altrincham to face current league leaders Manchester Phoenix (5:30pm), but with the play-offs being so tight Payette has labelled tomorrow’s clash with Peterborough as a ‘must-win’ game.
Steeldogs have won three of their four games this season against Phantoms and speaking ahead of the game Payette, the Steeldogs head coach, said: “Last Saturday (against Manchester) we produced our best performance of the season.
“Every game is important and we need to pick up as many wins as possible.
“It’s going to be really tight, but if we keep playing the way we have been recently then we will be fine.
“Peterborough is going to be a must-win game for us and we see it as a four pointer.
“We don’t want to get reeled in by them.”
