Steeldogs failed to pick up any points in a tough weekend of iceSheffield EPL action, although their challenge for a playoff place is still alive.
They lost 3-1 to Guildford Flames and 2-1 to Swindon Wildcats.
A great solo effort from Janis Ozolins proved the only goal against second-placed Guildford Flames, a team boasting some of the league’s top imports and a core of experienced British players. Kriss Grundmanis and ex-Steeler David Longstaff were men of the match.
Sunday’s game saw Dogs’ closest rivals, Swindon Wildcats, secure their play-off spot with a nail-biting victory. Steeldogs got some reward for their efforts when Stuart Brittle finished a power play attack from right in front of the net with five minutes to go. A penalty against Swindon allowed the Steeldogs to pull their netminder late in the game, but when Edgars Bebris was given a tripping penalty inside the final 30 seconds the game was lost.
