SHEFFIELD’S flourishing junior ice hockey programme has gone down the north American route by appointing a Director of Hockey - Steeldogs’ Canadian coach Andre Payette.
The EPL Coach of the Year agreed to take on the voluntary role at iceSheffield’s Junior Academy.
On the other side of the Atlantic, the post is regarded as a significant one in trying to bring youngsters up, ultimately, to professional standards.
It’s a post that been filled in junior systems in Bracknell and Guildford.
Payette, who has run summer hockey camps in America for budding hockey players, said: “I am looking forward to working closely with the best junior Academy in the country. We have eleven teams in the organisation from under 10s upwards and my aim is to help them get stronger and achieve a level of uniformity which will help the Academy grow and ensure that they have access to the best coaching possible.”
