The loss of the Challenge Cup final match at Cardiff Devils on Sunday March 5 was a jolt to Steelers’s system.

But they returned to action with wins at Braehead Clan (3-2) and a 6-2 obliteration of Cardiff, the next evening.

Speaking after that win, Paul Thompson’s right-hand man credited league-title favourites Cardiff - whom Steelers host again on Saturday - as a fine team.

He said they had suffered some close defeats to them - and actually played better then than in the 6-2 victory.

“I have to say I am proud of the team, the confidence they have built up in Glasgow. We have shown the fans we are a good team too” he said.

Asked about the pressures on the reigning champions, he said: “Our team - it’s emotional...they have the press (pressure) we should be number one.

“They won the League two years in a row. I can see when we lose some games we are going down a little.

“I have seen some games when we have one, two goals under, and come into a panic situation. But I have to say they learn all the way.”

And against Devils, last Sunday, they showed “very good character.”

They had followed the game plan and scored character goals, including one from Levi Nelson, whom the Swede described as “like a horse flying.”

Andersson said it meant a lot to win on Friday at second-place Belfast Giants.

“We have to stay on the level we are now and hopefully maybe we can have some players back.”

The coach would favour a second deal at Sheffield, saying: “I have to say I like the atmosphere here - I love it here.”
