Dowd started last weekend by scoring either side of the second intermission to help Sheffield secure a 3-2 victory in Braehead on Saturday night, with his goal early in the third period ultimately proving to be the game winner.

The Great Britain assistant captain then followed that performance up with a sensational effort against league leaders Cardiff on Sunday at the Sheffield Arena, bagging two goals and four points as Paul Thompson’s side beat the Devils 6-2 to provide a late twist in the title race.

Dowd now has 21 goals and 42 points in 47 Elite League games for the third-placed Steelers so far this season, adding a further two goals and seven points in 13 Challenge Cup appearances.

The Teessider is in super confident form, starring on a line with Andreas Valdix and Levi Nelson and hitting the net six times in four games.

This weekend and his team-mates, the 28-year-old takes on Belfast Giants and Cardiff Devils, Friday and Saturday, away and home consecutively.
