Sheffield Steelers plan to put another dent in Cardiff Devils’ home record tonight.

The Devils started their season off well in the new surrounds of the Ice Arena Wales stadium in Cardiff Bay.

They won their first three domestic games there, before going on a mini slump, losing 3-1 to Nottingham Panthers and 3-2 to Coventry Blaze.

Steelers go there in a good run of form, although their last defeat came at the hands of the Devils, at Sheffield Arena.

Sheffield coach Paul Thompson said the trip presented “a huge challenge” to his men.

But he pointed out: “Coventry went there and won and Nottingham did the week before. I think we can put in a far better performance than we did against Cardiff here.”

Today’s game is a Challenge Cup group contest, followed tomorrow by a return game against the Devils in the league.

Cardiff are second in the Elite division, behind Nottingham who have six wins from seven games.

“Nottingham have got off to a great start in the league,” said Thompson. “People keep saying to me ‘Oh Nottingham, they are this, they are that’, but Nottingham are winning and they are winning every night. And they are winning because they are good.

“But we can only beat what is in front of us. And we want to keep this winning streak going.”
