EDINBURGH boss Scott Neil today wished a speedy recovery to injured Steeler Danny Meyers - but insisted the referee had got the call and punishment on his own player wrong.

Meyers was hurt in a mid-ice collision with Neil Hay.

Referee Tom Darnell gave a five minute major penalty for ‘kneeing’ and then a game misconduct.

It was a game-changing call, as Sheffield first levelled and then won the match on the Power Play.

Neil said: “It was a bizarre call. I have seen it again on video and our player simply cut across Danny, he didn’t even raise his shoulder.

“I suppose the ref could have considered a checking to the head call because of the injury; that would be down to his interpretation, but it was never intentional. A kneeing call was nonsense.”

Meyers and Tylor Michel are both doubts for this weekend.
